Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

Food and Nutrition Service

The Minnesota Department of Education’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) administers school and community nutrition programs for over 700,000 Minnesota children and adults through over 1,000 local schools, child and adult care facilities and summer food program sites. Participants receive nutritious meals and education to help them learn and practice healthy habits for a lifetime of wellness.

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) promotes improved nutrition for Minnesota children in day care centers. The CACFP reimburses nonresidential child care centers and outside school hours care centers that serve nutritious meals and snacks. The centers may be eligible for reimbursement for meals and snacks served to: infants and children 12 years of age and younger, children of migrant workers 15 years of age and younger and children of any age with disabilities. Reimbursement is based on the income levels of children in care. Up to two meals and one snack or one meal and two snacks a day can be reimbursed for each child.
